CMPD Officer Shot, Suspect Identified

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– A law enforcement source confirmed to WCCB Charlotte that a CMPD officer was shot on Honey Hill Lane in Southwest Charlotte Saturday night.

On Saturday at approximately 9:48 p.m., officers responded to the 12000 block of Honey Hill Lane in reference to a shots fired call for service. When officers arrived on scene the suspect, 24-year-old Joshuale Carter began shooting at them, striking Lieutenant Andrew Harris. Officers returned fire striking Carter.

Lieutenant Harris sustained a serious injury and is currently listed in stable condition. Carter sustained life threatening injuries.

While officers were on scene they located a male victim inside an apartment that was shot by the Carter. The male victim was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury.

The two officers involved, Sergeant Jonathan Steppe and Officer Jon Carroll, have been placed on paid Administrative Leave as standard procedure.

Carter is currently at Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition. Upon his release, he will be charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm, Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious, Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury on a Law Enforcement Officer, 2nd degree Kidnapping, Assault on a Female, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
