CMPD has released the names of the officers and suspect who were involved in Tuesday’s early morning SWAT standoff in west Charlotte.
Officers Olin Lester and Derek Rud have both been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure. Officer Lester has been with CMPD since 2000 and Officer Rud has been with them since 2005.
The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Sylasone Ackhavong.
The investigation is ongoing.
CHARLOTTE, NC — An investigation is underway after an armed suspect was fatally shot during a standoff with officers early Tuesday morning.
The incident started around 3:00am on Tuckaseegee Road at Little Rock Road. Police responded to reports of an armed man at the 7-Eleven threatening suicide.
SWAT and negotiators were called to the scene. After several attempts to talk the man down officials say the man raised the gun towards officers. That’s when they say two SWAT officers shot the suspect.
Medic attempted to transport the suspect but he was pronounced dead on the way to the CMC.
As with any officer involved shooting, an investigation is being conducted to determine if proper policies and procedures were followed.
