Charlotte 49ers Name Kevin Olsen Starting QB
CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — There’s another Olsen in town.
Charlotte 49ers football coach Brad Lambert announced Kevin Olsen, the younger brother of Panthers tight end Greg Olsen, would be the team’s starting quarterback going forward. Kevin Olsen beat out four other 49ers for the job.
“The quarterback room was such a good, strong room,” Kevin Olsen said. “There’s competition and we are all still rooting for each other. I can’t look any more forward to trying to help this team.”
Lambert informed the team of the decision on Thursday morning. One of the players battling for the quarterback spot, Cody Keith, has elected to transfer from Charlotte. Keith, a Charlotte native, had transferred into Charlotte this spring from East Carolina.
Kevin Olsen signed with the 49ers in December after a checkered past. He red-shirted a season at Miami (FL) and later transferred to Towson University. He never played a game at Towson before transferring to a junior college in California.
Kevin Olsen will be featured on Sunday’s edition of Got Game airing at 10:35.
Charlotte’s spring game is 7pm Saturday night at Jerry Richardson Stadium.
