911 Call Paints Violent Picture in Gastonia Woman’s Death

GASTONIA, NC — A mother of two, found in the bath tub of a Gastonia home, stabbed to death. Her boyfriend is charged with her murder.

Tonight we have the 911 call from the woman who found the body, and it paints a violent picture.

911 CALL: “I think she hurt herself, because there’s blood all over.”

911 CALL: “I just see blood all over the inside of the tub, and she’s in there curled up.”

Those are the words of Virginia Garofalo, the woman who found Amoritta Costner’s body Thursday. Now Garofalo’s son, Eduardo Rojas, is charged with his girlfriend’s murder.

A family friend told us the two were involved with dangerous people.

“I think that the murder, everything from the murder, came behind doing drugs and dealing with people that deal with drugs,” says the woman who is friends with Costner’s aunt.

WCCB Charlotte found arrest records for both Costner and Rojas. He had just been arrested on Tuesday for failure to comply.

Garofalo told the 911 operator that Rojas had also been shot recently. Something she blamed on Costner.

911 CALL: “She always has problems. My son got shot in the chest last week, or maybe two weeks ago, because of her.”
911 CALL: “He started yelling at my son, ‘Well she owes me money, and I came to get it”.

WCCB Charlotte also found an assault case from June of 2015 for the home on West 10th Avenue, in which Garofalo and Rojas were named as victims.

“That guy that she was running around with, he sold drugs and he wasn’t no good person to be around,” says the family friend.

Rojas is currently being held in the Gaston County Jail without bond.
