Pineville Firefighter Richard Sheltra Remembered in Memorial Service
CHARLOTTE, NC – Inside Forest Hill Church, more than 2,000 people gathered to say goodbye to Richard Sheltra.
“Richard Sheltra impacted my life abundantly. He helped shape who I am today, he’s taught me to be best I can be,” said cousin Christina Sheltra.
The 20-year-old volunteer firefighter was described as faithful, humble, and selfless.
Pineville Fire Chief Mike Gerin says Sheltra was driven and motivated to be the best he could be.
“Richard had the fire service in his blood,” Gerin says.
Outside people lined streets to watch the procession to and from the church.
Sheltra’s body carried by a fire engine draped in black.
“He did something that most of us hope never happen and I hope we never have to do this again,” says Pineville resident Mark Armondi.
