HICKORY, NC– “Every day even with taking medications she’s still sick everyday,” said mom Kristy Hammonds.
Kristy Hammonds watches her 7 year old daughter Sara fight everyday with chronic pain, suffering from cyclic vomiting syndrome.
Doctors told Hammonds a service dog could help. Many places had long waits so she went to Craigslist and found Griffin. She says an ad from Scott Rounds of Charlotte said his wife was a disabled vet and had used griffin and didn’t need him anymore so they would sell him for $1000.
“He said he wished he could give the dog to us for free but he couldn’t give the dog to use for free that he needed the money,” said Hammonds.
Hammonds got a loan from the bank and brought the dog home. She says Griffin immediately became aggressive. Attacked her mom’s cat, then destroyed the room she kept him in. So she called K-9 Navigators where Griffin originally came from.
“K-9 Navigators said they were under the impression the dog was retired and the dog possibly had diabetes and had number of health conditions and had been kenneled before for being aggressive,” said Hammonds.
We spoke with Rounds over the phone who says Griffin was never aggressive in the past. He confirmed he got Griffin for free from the VA, but did sell him to Hammonds for $1000. He tells me he did nothing wrong.
We pulled the incident report at Hickory Police Department which claims Fraud under False Pretense, police said they could not make any comments on this as it is an ongoing cause and has been sent to the DA’s office to see if charges will be filed.
Griffin is back with K-9 Navigators in Maryland. Family has set up a Go Fund Me me account for Hammond’s daughter Sara. Here is the link for information and to donate.
