Body Mistaken For Halloween Decoration In China Grove
CHINA GROVE, N.C. – A woman says she is desperate for answers after a man’s dead body was mistaken for a Halloween decoration in a China Grove yard.
A GoFundMe account organized by Haley Reavis states that 34-year-old Robert Owens was found dead, and stripped of clothing in a yard. A lawn care employee says he assumed Owens was a Halloween decoration or a mannequin for K-9 training thus never reporting the sighting to the authorities, according to Owens’ GoFundMe.
However, the China Grove Police Department tells WCCB that the grounds keeper of the log cabin told them that he saw the body Monday morning when he was mowing but thought it was a fake dummy used for training by numerous law enforcement agencies who were on the property over the last few years and did not report it. The next day, on October 10th, police say another worker at the property reported the body to authorities.
Police say an autopsy was conducted on Friday, October 13th and preliminary findings ruled out any signs of assault or trauma to the body. Police say they are still awaiting the toxicology report to determine the cause of death.
