Sunsets Just After 5 PM Are Coming Soon

Due to Earth's tilt, the higher latitudes lose daylight quicker than lower latitudes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WCCB) — It is that time of year where we move our clocks back one hour. The good news is we gain an hour of sleep. The bad news, sunsets just after 5 PM are quickly approaching.Sunrise Sunset TemplateThe Sunshine Protection Act was first introduced in 2018, but died in committee in 2018, 2019 and in 2021. In 2021, the bill passed in the Senate, but died in the House. In 2023, the U.S. Senate unanimously approved the bill in March, but according to Congress’ website, the bill is currently in limbo.

This bill would “make daylight saving time the new, permanent standard time” according to its description.

Here are states that will not be changing their clocks on November 5th:

  • Hawaii
  • Arizona
  • American Samoa
  • Guam
  • Northern Mariana Islands
  • Puerto Rico
  • U.S. Virgin Islands

Daylight saving time ends on November 5th at 2 AM.
