CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Going through a pregnancy can be the most stressful time of your life. I caught up with a pair ofΒ doulas in CharlotteΒ who joined forces bringing over 30 plus years of experience to the Queen City.

Collin ParsonsΒ ofΒ Doula DifferentlyΒ says her little brother and sister were her first doula babies. Parsons’ mom was on bed rest 4 months into her pregnancy. β€œIt’s so funny, my grandma who is the light of my life who had an unmedicated says she wished I would have known about people like you (doulas) when I was giving birth.”

Parsons teamed up withΒ Heidi Snyderburn-CampbellΒ ofΒ Birth Story Media, both with a passion for their doula careers. A calling so to speak.

β€œWe want it to be a safe space to reduce anxiety in going into the birthing process. We want it to be a positive transformation into parenthood, leaving behind your old self and welcoming your new person you are going to be as a parent.” says Snyderburn-Campbell.

Snyderburn-Campbell also authoredΒ Birth Story: A Pregnancy Guidebook and Journal,” and also offers a free podcast,Β Birth Story Podcast. β€œA lot of people are getting referred to classes, books, doulas, but they can’t afford it so anyone can tune in to the podcast and listen for free.”

Doula services in CharlotteΒ are not cheap; however, the duo is striving to make it more affordable.

β€œCollin and I as career doulas do pro-bono births every year, so we can help as many people as possible regardless of income.Β Doulas in CharlotteΒ range anywhere from $1,800 to $4,000, so that’s a big investment that everyone deserves. Especially in Charlotte, some businesses and insurance companies cover doula services in full, but for the most part you’re on your own.Β Everyone is listening, and the big players like Atrium and Novant are building out their doula programs.” says Heidi.

β€œI think we are in a world where everyone can use more love and use more support when you’re going through the birth of a child and intimate experiences. I don’t think you can have too much of that.” says Parsons.
