Man Arrested Following Fatal Crash In North Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has arrested one male suspect following a fatal car crash in north Charlotte on Wednesday night.
At approximately 9:13 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8th, detectives responded to a reported car crash on West Sugar Creek Road near exit 41 of Interstate 85.
Officers that responded spotted two vehicles, a 2015 Ford E350 van and a 2006 Chevrolet Astro minivan, with extensive damage in the road. Medical personnel and the Charlotte Fire Department were also dispatched to the scene.
In the initial investigation, police say the Ford driver was allegedly traveling at a fast speed in the opposite direction when it hit head-on with the Chevrolet van.
The Chevrolet van driver, 54-year-old Roberto Perez-Martinez, was transported to Atrium Health Main and pronounced dead.
The Ford driver, 44-year-old Gregorio Aguirre Romero, remained on scene and was uninjured.
Police arrested Romero and charged him with involuntary manslaughter, driving left-of-center, no operator’s license and hit and run related to a separate accident.
This crash remains under investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
