“No Cap, Those Pills Are Sus”: CMPD’s New Fentanyl Awareness Campaign

CHARLOTTE – “Keepin’ it 100. Street pills kill” and “The only Fenty we like is the beauty brand @rihanna”.

These are just some of the slang phrases Charlotte Mecklenburg Police have decided to use for their new fentanyl awareness campaign.

Today, the Department reviled the new PSA’s they plan to post around the city as well as on billboards and in local schools, hoping that they will appeal to a younger crowd.

On October 19th,  CMPD reported 162 deaths from fentanyl in 2023. Three weeks later, there are nearly 180 deaths reported.

CMPD shared a case from just last month where a drug bust was made that uncovered a fentanyl lab. They recovered $120,000 of fentanyl pills disguised as 30 milligram oxycodone’s. The CMPD Vice unit has seized over 75 pounds of suspected fentanyl this year. Sadly, that’s only a small dent.

When it comes to this new awareness campaign, expect to see the sign all across the Queen City as CMPD spreads the word about the dangers of buying pills of the street.

Jahamrian Roseboro died in august from fentanyl at just 18 years old. His mother is in support of the new campaign and its goal to reach younger people. Her advice when it comes to pills; listen to your parents.

“Turn the music down for a second and focus on what’s around you,” she said. “Pay attention to who you call a friend.”
