ROCK HILL, N.C. – A man has been arrested following a robbery that led to officers discharging weapons in Rock Hill, according to a news release.
Officers with the Rock Hill Police Department responded to an alleged armed robbery call on November 20th around 6 p.m. Police say dispatch received information that the individual involved used a gun during the robbery and fled after being handed an unknown amount of money.
Once officers arrived on the scene they obtained descriptions from witnesses stating the man in question, later identified as 45-year-old David Massie was a black man wearing black clothing, according to a news release.
Officers in the Millwood Shopping Center on Herlong Avenue observed Massie matching the description on a bicycle.
According to a news release, as officers attempted to stop Massie, he got off the bicycle presenting a black handgun.
Police say the officers on the scene fired their weapons, striking Massie in the hand.
Officers say the man dropped the handgun, fell to the ground, and was immediately apprehended.
Massie was taken to Piedmont Medical Center where he was treated and released for jail.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Massie was identified as the suspect in the robbery. The firearm was recovered at the scene as well as the money taken from the bank.
An Internal Review is being completed by the Rock Hill Police Department Professional Standards Unit. The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division was notified and will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.
