Giving Tuesday: Local Non – Profit Giving The Gift Of Literacy
CHARLOTTE, N.C — Inside ‘Books on the House’ children and adults are getting the gift of literacy.
Dozens of books are available for the community for free as the mobile book collective goes into communities in Charlotte and surrounding counties with a goal of promoting literacy and book accessibility.
“We know literacy is such a foundational part of the success of our community and we wanted to make sure that we had access to books so that’s why we go into the communities,” Executive director Kat Verner said.
Though you see many children’s books on the shelves, Books on the House also has books for adults.
So far this year they’ve already given out 11,000 books.
This Giving Tuesday they are asking for the community’s help in expanding their reach to 25,000 books next year.
“We have been giving away books as fast as we can possibly take them in and give them right back out. So we want to keep doing that and expanding our books on the house,” Verner said.
