DA Drops Charges Against Woman In Viral Video

CHARLOTTE – It’s the video that went viral. A Charlotte Mecklenburg police officer punching a woman during an arrest. Now, a bombshell decision from the district attorney’s office: all charges against her have been dropped.

Christina Pierre was charged with assault on a government official, resisting a public officer, and simple possession. The DA’s office says they looked at body cam video and interviewed police and witnesses and decided the state would not have success at trial.

Chief Johnny Jennings released a statement today saying in part, “I was disappointed to learn that all charges were dropped against Ms. Pierre and Mr. Lee…however I have a great deal of respect for our District Attorney and know he has a difficult decision to make when it comes to the prosecution of these cases.”

Pierre’s team is will be at a virtual hearing on the 30th to encourage the release of the body cam video. The officer who punched Pierre in the face is still on duty.
