Gastonia, NC – Gastonia Mayor, Walker Reid, III passed away Thursday, November 30.
Reid was the City of Gastonia’s first elected African-American mayor, whose career spanned nearly three decades in public service.

Reid was elected for a two-year term as Gastonia’s Mayor from 2017-2019 and was re-elected for a four-year term in 2019. He also served as Mayor Pro Tem and City Councilman for 22 years, was Former Assistant Fire Marshal for Mecklenburg County, and Former Fire Service Instructor at Gaston College. He was also a firefighter and fire marshal with the City of Gastonia.
