Below freezing mornings are on the way early this week.
EXCERPT: Clear skies and frosty temperatures greet us as we head into the heart of December.
SUBTITLE: Chilly days and freezing mornings are on the way this week.
If recent rainfall would be calculated into SNOW we would have close to 20″ on the ground right now. Alas, no snow….yet, but cold air will establish itself over the Carolinas in its stead as temperatures dip 5-10° below normal. A deep freeze arrives across our area overnight into Tuesday before temperatures climb a bit into midweek. Any hint of a meaningful warm-up will be short lived as another cold front sweeps in from the northwest by Wednesday night. While the incoming front won’t bring any rain (or snow), it will re-establish our connection with bitterly cold air through the end of the workweek. This cold front on Wednesday will break the pattern that we have seen for the last few weeks.
It’s a long way out, but our next shot at meaningful rainfall arrives by the end of this coming weekend. Models are hashing out the details on an area of low pressure that will develop in the northern Gulf by the end of the week. The Carolinas may get clipped by some moisture as the budding system jaunts northeastward. That said, most guidance keeps us dry over the vast majority of the next seven days. For now, expect a mainly rain-free weekend with near-average temperatures at that time.
