A Chilly few days ahead and a real Carolina soaker this weekend
The next rain chance
Chilly Mornings Continue, Soggy Sunday Ahead
EXCERPT: The cold front from last night will chill us tonight!
SUBTITLE: The rainfall this weekend will help reduce our recent drought conditions!
Another chilly day becomes a colder night! Lows will continue to dip near or below freezing over the next couple of mornings while highs top out in the 40s and 50s today and Friday. Mostly sunny skies will carry through the work week as winds flow mainly out of the north and east. The Geminids meteor shower peaked last night, but will continue to shoot stars through Christmas Eve; if you missed peak viewing, it should be another lovely (but cold) night for stargazing.
Clouds promptly build back into the Carolinas by Saturday afternoon, thanks to an area of low pressure developing in the Gulf over the next 48 hours. This incoming moisture-laden system will bring showers and a few storms to our area by Sunday morning. Recent trends are bringing the storms much farther west than in days prior; while most will be non-severe, we’ll want to stay weather-wise throughout the weekend. For now, expect a breezy and soggy Sunday as highs warm back into the 60s. Cooler and drier air returns on the backside of the incoming low for the work week ahead.
