DAVIDSON, N.C. β Charlotte Water crews responded to a wastewater overflow near 101 North Thompson Street (Davidson) on 12/14/2023. An estimated 1,467 gallons reached West Branch of Rocky River Creek in the Yadkin Pee Dee Watershed. A broken pipe caused the overflow.
βA majority of wastewater overflows can be prevented with your help,β said Cam Coley, spokesperson at Charlotte Water. βAnything put in plumbing or a manhole can cause wastewater overflows, spilling raw sewage into your street, your creek or even inside your own home. Even products labeled as βflushableβ do not breakdown in the sewer system and can contribute to clogging.β
How You Can Help:
- Β Toss in the trash:Β paper towels, wipes, hair, cotton swabs, feminine products, dental floss, coffee grounds, and excess food.
- Toss in the toilet:Β onlytoilet paper.
- Kitchen sink:soap suds, small amounts of foods from plate, and liquids (no fats, oils, or grease).
- Take to a full-service recycling center:Β used and expired oils and grease.
