CMPD is investigating a shooting that happened overnight at the 4000 block of Collegiate Avenue in University City. at the 901 Place Apartments. The apartment complex is home to where many UNC Charlotte students reside.
Police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call approximately at 2:53 a.m. Saturday morning.
Officers found a man with evident gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead on scene. Three others were transported to Carolinas Medical Center in University with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
CMPD believe the incident started because of a an altercation began between a group of people inside of an apartment on Collegiate Avenue.
The investigation is still ongoing.
