Temperatures Recover Into Holiday Weekend
Highs will approach 60° as we head into Santa's big day.
Our penultimate Hump Day of the year is off to a freezing start. Lows currently reside in the teens and 20s across the western half of the Carolinas this morning, but temperatures only rise from here. Expect highs to remain below normal this afternoon in the 40s and lower 50s as the sunshine continues its dominance over our area. A subtropical upper-level ridge will slowly push across the central and eastern portions of the country over the next several days, which will steadily build temperatures into the above-average range by the end of the workweek; highs will top out near 60° this holiday weekend in the Metro.
Dreaming of a white Christmas? Keep dreaming. The warmth continues into Santa’s big day as a rainmaking system approaches from the west. The incoming storm should also sweep up some moisture from the Gulf, which will bump up rain chances into Christmas and Boxing Day. Cold air lurks behind the system, setting us up for a chilly final few days of 2023. Snow-lovers will want to watch the first week of the new year closely.
