Heating Up Into Holiday Weekend

Don't count on a white Christmas this year - if anything, it'll be wet.

We’re off to another freezing start this Thursday morning, but highs are rising as we head into the holiday weekend. Clouds will build in throughout the day, but we should still see more sunshine than anything else through the afternoon. The comfy, cloudy trend continues into the final day of the workweek. Expect a bit more sunshine and even warmer temperatures into the first half of the weekend; the Metro and southeastward may make a run at 60°. Another blanket arrives by Christmas Eve, but most of the Piedmont and Foothills will top out in the lower 60s thanks to the arrival of a subtropical ridge from the southwest.

Moisture arrives by Christmas Day, but don’t expect anything wintry. Showers of the rainy variety push in by your Christmas night from the west. A healthy 1-3″ of rain will fall across our area before exiting to the northeast by Tuesday night. Colder air lies behind the incoming rainmaking system, but temperatures will quickly recover into the above-average range by the end of the year. If you’re hoping for some Piedmont snow, the first few weeks of 2024 look more intriguing by the day.
