CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 37-year-old man on a motorized wheelchair died from injuries he sustained from being hit by a vehicle in an apartment complex parking lot earlier this month, authorities said.
Police say that Rontrey Digsby was operating his motorized wheelchair when a 2008 Toyota Camry struck him in The Addison at South Tryon apartment complex.
The collision occurred on Tuesday, December 5th at approximately 9:14 a.m. Digsby was transported to Atrium Health Main to be treated and was later released.
However, on December 18th, police say Digsby requested MEDIC due to complications from the injuries he suffered in the crash earlier this month. Digsby was transported to Atrium Health Main and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Christian Esteban Gomez Rodriguez, 43, was operating the Toyota vehicle during the crash on December 5th. Police do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the collision.
