Charlotte’s William Byron Streaking thru NASCAR’s Truck Series
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (WCCB Charlotte) — William Byron has given himself a pair of high school graduation presents.
Byron, 18, has won two straight NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races as the driver of the No. 9 Toyota for Kyle Busch Motorsports since graduating from Country Day High School in the last month. He now has three wins total for the season putting him on top of the NCWTS standings.
While Byron is making it look easy, he says his success is a product of a great team.
“We are finally putting it all together on a weekly basis and its really good to see,” Byron said. “It’s been really special to get that second win in a row and be on the roll that we are.”
Byron’s future in NASCAR is bright but will require balance. He has been enrolled in online classes at Liberty University as a senior in high schoo, but now that he has his high school diploma, he will head to live on the Lynchburg, Va campus this fall and pursue a business degree.
“I’m looking forward to that next chapter and to develop into a college student,” Byron said. “It’s going to be a difficult challenge. It’s getting more time consuming with the way racing is going, but hopefully we can balance that.”
Byron will next race this weekend at the Drivin For Linemen 200 Brought To You By Altec at Gateway Motorsports Park in St. Louis, MO.
Byron will be featured in depth on WCCB’s Got Game on Saturday July 2nd and Sunday July 3rd. The show airs at 10:35.
