Two Dead, One Airlifted To Hospital In Fatal Lancaster Crash

LANCASTER, S.C. – Two men are dead and another needed to be airlifted by helicopter to a hospital following a fatal single-vehicle crash in Lancaster County on Friday morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m. on SC 9 near Roy Carnes Road on Friday, December 29th.

Police say three men were in a 2016 Infiniti Q50 traveling west on Pageland Highway approximately nine miles east of Lancaster, South Carolina.

The driver traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a mailbox and a utility pole before overturning, according to authorities.

One adult male, later identified as 22-year-old Ty’Kezius Benson, died at the scene. Dareon Steward, 21, was transported to MUSC-Lancaster and died shortly after arriving.

Police say the third male, the rear passenger, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Charlotte. His name was not released, and his condition remains unclear at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
