McCrory, Cooper Face Off In Uptown Debate

CHARLOTTE, NC– Taxes, teacher pay and mental health issues are just some of the topics Governor Pat McCrory and Attorney General Roy Cooper clashed over in their first gubernatorial debate.

It was held this afternoon at the Westin Charlotte in Uptown.

They also fought over House Bill-2. Cooper calling to repeal the law, Governor McCrory accusing the city of Charlotte and the Federal Government of policing restrooms.

“Roy Cooper believes if a boy thinks he is a girl, but still has the anatomy of a boy, he can go into a girl’s shower in our middle schools, and our high schools, and our universities.” said McCrory.

“The governor has gone all over national TV talking about bathrooms, and not only that, criticizing North Carolina companies for stepping up and saying House Bill 2 is wrong, that it puts discrimination into the law.” said Cooper.

When asked about the controversial I -77 toll lanes, Cooper said the project should be cancelled, while McCrory says the governor doesn’t have the authority to do that.
