Holiday crowd expected at Ramsey Creek Beach

“Very quick and easy parking was no problem,” said Dave Razala of Waxhaw.

It was a slow Thursday at Ramsey Creek Park Beach. Only about 30 people were on the beach which on weekends packs up to 500.

“I was expecting it to be a little bigger I will say but for what it is and amount of people out today it was nice size,” said Christy Ruszala of Waxhaw.

It’s the weekend crowds that have angry neighbors creating a Change.org page trying to get the beach shut down.

They’ve met for weeks with the officials who approved using taxpayer dollars to build it down the narrow 2-lane Nantz Road.

“Shame on the commissioners, the county manager, especially Jim gargus and Greg Clemer from the Park and Rec department that thought this was a good idea they tell us they’re trying to manage it but what they’re doing is putting a band aid fix on a cut artery problem,” said Lee Fleming of Cornelius.

One fix Mecklenburg Park and Rec made is paying for two CATS buses to shuttle in beach goers for free since there’s only about 150 parking spots for the beach.

“Once they started the shuttles that took a lot of people from walking down sidewalks down the streets and throwing the trash on their yards and all that,” said Cornlius resident John Callis.

Park and Rec plans to increase from two to three shuttles for the holiday weekend.

Neighbors say though the shuttles help with one nuisance, they create another one.

“It’s still four super sized Cats full sized busses they’re extremely loud they don’t fit on the street,” said Fleming.
