CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives are requesting the public’s help to locate a white Chevrolet Express cargo van that was involved in a fatal hit and run crash.
On December 31, 2023, officers responded to the block of North Sharon Amity Road that involved a pedestrian and motor vehicle collision. Mariela Gutierrez, 18, was located by officers in the road and say she was pronounced dead on the scene.
The cargo van did not remain on the scene or contact emergency services and, according to police, is believed to have a damaged hood, bumper and front grill. Police say the van was last seen on Highway 74 in Matthews, NC.
