Remaining Cold, Watching Weekend

Don't be shocked if a few sleet pellets mix in with isolated rain showers tonight.

The first Hump Day of 2024 is here! Near-average highs carry into the heart of our Wednesday in the 40s and 50s. The big difference between today and yesterday will be increasing cloud coverage in the afternoon as a weak disturbance passes to our south. A few isolated showers will clip the southern portions of the WCCB Charlotte viewing area this evening. Don’t be shocked if a few sleet pellets mix in with the rain as the moisture exits to the east overnight; impacts will be minimal. The remainder of the workweek looks cold and dry as highs struggle to get out of the 30s and 40s.

High-impact weather lies ahead this weekend as a strong storm system approaches from the southwest. Marginally cold air will be in place ahead of this system, which may lead to a very wet wintry mix in the Piedmont and Foothills Saturday morning before transitioning to all rain by the afternoon. The High Country will likely see a more icy wintry mix in the morning before transitioning to rain and snow in the latter portions of the day. Accumulations outside of the mountains appear negligible right now. We’ll dry out by the second half of the weekend into the start of the workweek, but another powerful disturbance may cause more issues on Tuesday.
