Suspect Arrested For Robbing Academy Sports & Dick’s Sporting Goods In Matthews

The suspect accused of robbing two sporting good stores has been identified as 21-year-old Vidall Velasquez has arrested and charged with armed robbery. Velasquez is being held in the Mecklenburg County jail without bond.

MATTHEWS, N.C. – Police are searching for a man that robbed an Academy Sports and Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Matthews, North Carolina on Friday afternoon.

Matthews Police say a man robbed the Academy Sports store on Matthews Township Parkway. Immediately after, the same man went across the street to Dick’s Sporting Goods on Northeast Parkway and robbed that store.

The man allegedly stole a lot of merchandise. He was confronted by employees at both stores but allegedly indicated that he had a gun so the staff backed off.

The suspect was last seen leaving in a white Nissan Titan pickup truck.
