Severe Threat Tuesday

Beyond a tempestuous Tuesday, the rest of the week looks like business as usual.

Good Monday morning! We’re off to a chilly start to the second workweek of the year as lows dip into the 20s and 30s around the area. Highs will top out near average in the 40s and 50s this afternoon with plentiful sunshine. Mother Nature flips the script in a major way on Tuesday. A powerful system sweeps through the eastern portions of the United States tomorrow afternoon, bringing severe storms to much of the Southeast. Heavy rain, damaging wind gusts, and even a few tornadoes are possible Tuesday afternoon, especially to the south and east of Charlotte. Flooding will likely be an issue for many as rainfall will total 2-3″+ in a short period. A widespread tornado outbreak is unlikely, but our eastern counties must stay weather-wise for embedded supercells later in the day. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive alerts.

We’re back to business as usual for the rest of the week beyond Tuesday. Sunshine and near-average temperatures return to the forecast on Wednesday and Thursday with some mountain snow possible midweek. Another rainmaking system arrives by the end of the workweek, but severe weather is not in the forecast. Sunshine and near-normal highs re-establish themselves this coming weekend.
