Myers Park Families,

This is Robert Folk, your Principal

I am deeply saddened to share that Avyon Thomas, a senior here at our school, died early this morning while at a gathering. I have personally known Avyon and his family since the sixth grade and his passing is a tragedy.  Avyon was a loyal friend to his peers and was a caring and loving child. Our thoughts and sympathy go out to Avyon’s mother, grandmother, his family and friends.

His death is being investigated by police, and is not believed to be self-inflicted.

Death can be difficult for us to understand, especially when it is sudden. We may feel a variety of emotions: shock, sadness, or confusion. What is most important is that we care for and support each other.

We have informed our teachers and staff. Counselors will be available to meet with students needing support tomorrow and the days ahead.  Please let us know if we can help your child with this loss.

The physical, mental, and emotional loss of someone is very difficult to process.  Please take this time to speak to your child and share your love for them.  Thank you for your support of Myers Park.
