Charlotte Residents Finding Ways To Stay Cool In Summer Heat

CHARLOTTE, NC– With 13 straight days of temperatures in the 90’s people around Charlotte are trying to find ways to stay cool and safe from this Mid-Summer heat.

“We brought fruits and some water and just staying wet,” said Charlotte resident Diana Chestnut. “This little guy likes to stay wet.”

People packed the spray ground at Nevin park on Thursday. Even with people taking proper precautions the number of heat related calls has gone up.

Medic says it has had 21 this week alone, most of which include children and the elderly.

“We also have the group of people that are out playing softball or soccer or whatever the case is and they’re in very good condition but in these types of conditions they’re not drinking the way they should and they get dehydrated very easily,” said Medic Don Shue.

Medic says people who work in these type of conditions are usually used to them but they should still take extra precautions which is exactly what Paul Michaels and his crew do each day. They were out cleaning up tree damage from storms earlier this week in NoDa.

“We try to drink as much water as you can physically drink, we also take electrolyte tablets, take breaks frequently, drink gatorade when we get a chance and just try to pace yourselves.”
