Know all the moving parts within your car brake system!
Most drivers are familiar with certain components of the car brake system, such as the emergency brake, brake pads, and brake pedals. However, there are so many other parts that work together in order to make the entire brake system work together. Check it out and understand how your car’s brake system works.
Brake fluid and reservoir
The brake fluid is what is released to apply pressure to the brake pads to make your vehicle stop. The brake fluid must always be topped off! Low brake fluid can lead to brake failure. The brake fluid is kept inside the reservoir.
Master cylinder
The master cylinder pumps the brake fluid from the reservoir and transmits it to the other components of the brake system through the brakes hoses and lines.
Brake calipers and rotors
The brake calipers are metal pieces that hold the brake pads and rotor together. The rotor are round metal rods that once ignited pressed the brake pad against the rotor.
Brake rotors and pads
The brake rotors are steel wheels that spin when your vehicle is in motion. When you step on the brake and it’s ignited the rotor presses the brake pad against the rotor to create fiction and make the wheel stop. This allows you to make a complete and safe stop.
These parts all work together for one end goal. If one piece is out, worn, or failing, the entire system can take a hit and face brake failure. That’s why you must keep it in shape at our auto service center!
