Gov. McCrory Signs Law To Protect Children From Sex Offenders
RALEIGH, NC– In the midst of the NBA All-Star controversy, Governor Pat McCrory signed a law today aimed at protecting children in North Carolina from sex offenders.
The law is in memory of Jessica Lundsford, a 9 year old girl from Gastonia who was kidnapped and killed in Florida by a registered sex offender more than 10 years ago. Lundsford’s aunt says their family will stop at nothing to get the law passed nationwide.
“I know that we’re not going to stop until we get all 50 states. That’s very important that we all unite together,” said Sue Lunsford.
The law says certain sex offenders cannot visit any place where children frequently congregate. It goes into effect in September.
