Local Beach Closed After Disturbing Discovery
CHARLOTTE, NC– One place people won’t be cooling off this weekend is Ramsey Creek Beach in Cornelius.
Mecklenburg County officials issued a no swimming advisory. Its due to high levels of fecal bacteria in water samples that could make people sick. Officials don’t know the exact cause, but believe the heat and recent storms could be the culprit.
“These are naturally-occurring bacteria. They are in all environments,” said Chris Matthews Of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Parks And Recreation. “They can be in the soil, they can wash off parking lots from goose droppings. They’re in the water, they are always present.”
Officials will keep testing this weekend.
Swimming will be allowed at Ramsey Creek Beach when bacteria levels return to a safe level. The park and boat ramps will stay open.
