Matthews Police Arrest Man For Shooting Neighbor Following Dispute

MATTHEWS, N.C. – Police have arrested a man in Matthews after he allegedly shot his neighbor in the neck following a dispute.

The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10th.

Police responded to an apartment complex off Parrish Street near Matthews Township Parkway regarding a woman that was shot. Upon arrival, police say they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities say she remains in critical but stable condition.

The man, later identified as 40-year-old Richard Andre Artis, initially left but turned himself in on-scene.

An investigation into the shooting found that the incident stems from a neighbor dispute between Artis and the victim.

Artis was taken to the Mecklenburg County Jail and has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.
