Police were called to 346 Chesnut Street around 1:15am Sunday where they found 46-year-old Melvin Gaither with a stab wound to the stomach.
Officers say Gaither was in the hallway holding his stomach and had a large amount of blood on his torso and pants. Gaither told police that his girlfriend, 35-year-old Mattie Walker, had stabbed him.
Police provided aid to Gaither until medic could arrive. He was then taken to Piedmont Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
