Suspect Arrested After Attacking A Wingate Student With A Knife On Campus

WINGATE, N.C. – Wingate University went into lockdown Friday night after a student was attacked on campus with a knife.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday, January 12th.

The student was reportedly attacked with a knife and suffered a cut to the hand. The student was able to get away from the attacker while Wingate Police and Union County deputies arrived on campus.

The attacker, who is not a student, was located and apprehended that night.

The student suffered minor injuries.

The university is expected to have an increase in patrols from campus safety and law enforcement this weekend.
