WILKESBORO, N.C. – State troopers are investigating following a fatal crash in Wilkesboro on Thursday, January 18th.
Around 9:50 a.m. troopers responded to a crash on Champion Mount Pleasant Road near Conley Shumaker Road.
It was reported that a 2003 Toyota Camry was traveling north on champion Mount Pleasant Road and collided head-on with a southbound 2006 Freightliner M2 box truck.
The driver of the Camry, identified as 57-year-old Cameron Mark McNeil succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the box truck, 48-year-old Gary Billings was taken to Wilkes Medical Center, with minor injuries.
The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor. Upon completion of the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Wilkes County District Attorney’s Office, charges are pending.
