Suspect In Custody After Evading Traffic Stop, Dragging Deputy From Car
IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. – A wanted man is in custody after dragging a deputy from his car while attempting to evade a traffic stop in Iredell County.
Corey Leazer, 33, was confirmed to be in custody by the Town of Davidson’s Facebook page at 8:23 a.m. on Sunday, January 21st.
The sheriff’s office said a deputy initiated a traffic stop at the Race City Valero on Oakridge Farm Highway. However, Leazer resisted arrest and returned to his vehicle.
While the deputy attempted to drag him out of the vehicle, Leazer drove off, dragging the deputy roughly 15-20 feet. The deputy then fired a shot and chased the suspect, but Leazer got away.
Just after 8 a.m. on Sunday, officials said the suspect was on foot near Halle Marie and that K-9 units were used to track his scent. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
