Shots Fired At Officers During Chase In Rock Hill
ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police say shots were fired at officers during a chase involving armed robbery suspects in Rock Hill.
Police say they used spike strips to stop the vehicle. The passenger ran from the vehicle but was found hiding in the crawl space of a nearby house.
It all started shortly after 1am when 36-year-old Ronald Wilson, of Staunton, VA, robbed the Circle K on Cherry Road in Rock Hill, according to police. Officers say 23-year-old Andrew Johnson, of Charlotte, was driving the silver SUV involved in the robbery.
Police were able to locate the vehicle just minutes after the robbery on Cherry Road and Constitution Boulevard, according to a news release.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, Johnson refused to stop so a pursuit began, according to authorities. Officers pursued the vehicle south on Cherry Road and eventually onto McConnells Highway, according to police.
The pursuit continued into York County and Chester County. During the pursuit, officers say the passenger, Wilson, fired several gunshots at officers. The pursuit ended at Church Street and Bryson Creek Drive when the vehicle ran over spike strips. Police immediately took Johnson into custody.
Wilson is accused of running from the scene. A York County K-9 was utilized and tracked Wilson to a residence where the crawl space was open indicating he was under the house.
A Rock Hill K-9 was deployed to help with the apprehension, which led to Wilson surrendering without incident, according to a news release.
Johnson was charged with failure to stop for blue lights, accessory to armed robbery, and criminal conspiracy. Wilson was charged with armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a weapon during a crime of violence.
The York County Sheriff’s Office will be issuing attempted murder charges against Wilson as a result of the shots fired at officers during the pursuit, according to a news release.
