CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sir Purr’s Pawsome Readers is part of the Panthers “3rd & Goal” initiative to support achievement of grade level reading proficiencies of young readers.
The Carolina Panthers and Bank of America will launch Sir Purr’s Pawsome Readers in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools during a high-energy reading pep rally at Thomasboro Academy for 400 third grade students Wednesday January 24.
The semester-long program will engage 3rd grade students at 70 CMS elementary schools and will include a year-end measurement of reading scores to determine improved literacy rates among participating students. The team and Bank of America are providing reading incentives to each participating classroom to support the program. A special end-of-year celebration will be provided for top performing schools.
“The Carolina Panthers are pleased to again team up with Bank of America and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to encourage young readers through the Sir Purr’s Pawsome Readers program,” said Panthers Director of Community Relations Riley Fields. “It’s imperative for students to be at grade-level reading proficiency as they enter fourth grade and make the academic adjustment from learning to read to reading to learn. It’s a critical determinant for future student success.”
