Deputies Identify Man After Stealing Jewelry During Facebook Marketplace Exchange In Burke County

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. –  Deputies have identified a Morganton man who allegedly stole jewelry during a Facebook Marketplace exchange in Burke County.

On January 7th, deputies received a report of a robbery that occurred at a private residence located on Propst Road outside of Morganton.

The victim alleged that a man whom she said she met through Facebook Marketplace came to her residence and attempted to trade a fake gold coin in exchange for jewelry.

Through further investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Brandon Meeks, who was using a false name on Facebook Marketplace.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was taken into custody without incident on January 19th, 2024, where he received a $10,000.00 secured bond.

The Burke County Sheriff’s office has recently received numerous reports of scams through Facebook Marketplace and other websites.
