ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. – A Rowan County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit was hit by a pursued vehicle after refusing to stop and resulted in two arrests, according to a news release.
The release states that in the early morning of February 26, 2024, a vehicle was ordered by deputies to stop due to speeding and displaying a tag that was not registered to that vehicle. The release goes on to say that the vehicle refused to stop and lead to a pursuit by the deputies on I-85 South.
Towards the end of the pursuit, the suspect vehicle spun out of control and resulted in striking a concrete barrier and colliding with another pursuing patrol unit, as said by the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies claim that the front seat passenger fled the scene on foot, while the driver, Dlevo Shuff and a back seat passenger, Aimedo Ilembula, were taken into custody. Deputies determined the vehicle was stolen. Shuff was charged with felony flee to elude, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, damage to property, no operators license, displaying a fictious license plate, assault on a government official, speeding and failure to maintain lane. Ilembula was served with an outstanding warrant on an unrelated charge of shooting into occupied property, according to the release.
No injuries were sustained in the pursuit. The front seat passenger has not been located.
