CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers running back Mike Tolbert paid a $3,900 auto repair bill in coins after a dispute with a local repair shop.
Tolbert is known for his sense of humor, but it doesn’t appear anyone is laughing in this situation.
According to a post on Tolbert’s Instagram account, he went to Motion Lab Tuning to have work done on his Chevy Caprice. Tolbert says that he agreed to a price and timeline for the work, but neither was adhered to.
Tolbert claims the shop raised the price of the work because he’s a “millionaire”. The shop owner claims Tolbert attempted to get the work done for free.
Tolbert and the shop owner apparently had a heated discussion before Tolbert paid the costs, and the police came to escort Tolbert off the property.
The police forced Tolbert to settle his debt, and since the body shop wouldn’t take a check from Tolbert, he decided to pay his bill with $3,900 in coins.
The owner of the shop says the coins were perfectly counted out and in boxes, so he will have no problem taking them back to the bank to deposit.
Both parties have shared their grievances on social media, and now the case is in the court of public opinion.
