Study: Wildfires Linked With Mental Health Problems
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β A new study shows the need for mental health treatment after wildfires may be more crucial than previously thought.Β
The study looked at more than seven million people in California who lived close to 25 large wildfires between 2011 and 2018.
Researchers found a significant increase in orders for anti-depressants and anxiety medication when compared to a period before those wildfires.
Research also shows that wildfires have been associated with an increase in alcohol and substance abuse disorders as well as anxiety and depression.
