15 Houses Given To Families In Need

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – More than a dozen lives were changed in an east Charlotte neighborhood, as 15 families in need were given the keys to their brand new homes.

In culmination of the 2023 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, thousands of workers came together over time to make this event happen.

This marks the second and final phase in the Meadows at Plato Price neighborhood. Most of the families waited years for this moment.

β€œIt’s such a journey,” Habitat for Humanity President and CEO Laura Belcher said. β€œThe families that are moving in have really been with us for years. They applied for their house and they’ve worked through financial literacy classes, they’ve met their neighbors, they prepared for home ownership, they’ve qualified for their mortgages. They’ve really taken a journey and helped build their own homes.

“Now that this part of the process is complete, moving in is the culmination of the dream. For us to be able to celebrate that in community is really a privilege.”
