CHESTER, S.C. – A 14-year-old is in custody after bringing a gun to school in Chester County.
It happened at Chester High School on Thursday, March 28th.
Officials began investigating the incident after the 14-year-old student allegedly showed their classmates a single bullet.
The sheriff’s office said school officials found a firearm and a magazine in the student’s backpack during dismissal.
The juvenile was taken into custody and charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds and possession of a firearm as a minor.
The School District wrote the following statement:
Earlier this afternoon, Chester High School personnel received reports that a student was in possession of a firearm on school premises during dismissal time. Law enforcement officials immediately confirmed that the reports were true and detained the student in question.
There was no direct threat against any student or staff member on campus, and the situation was resolved without any harm coming to anyone.
We understand that incidents like these are distressing to all students, staff, and parents. CCSD and Chester High School are taking every necessary step to ensure the continued safety of our school community. We are cooperating fully with our law enforcement partners during their investigation.
