SALISBURY, NC — Deputies have arrested a 71-year-old man after he fired at them Thursday morning.
Deputies say they responded to a home on Old Beatty Ford Road around 10:30pm after a scared caller reported Robert Ashby acting “out of his head.” Deputies, EMS, and family members worked together trying to get Ashby under control and to exit the home.
When deputies were told that Ashby had multiple guns inside the home and was armed with a handgun two deputies standing at the door went to move away. As they moved, according to reports, Ashby fired shots at the door.
No one was injured in the incident, but Ashby was eventually taken into custody and taken to the hospital for a medical issue. He will be charged with two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Official and one count of Resisting a Public Officer upon his release.
