Common Market Announces New South End Location

CHARLOTTE, NC — Common Market announced Wednesday that they will be setting up shop in a new location right in the heart of South End.

According to a release, the new location will be at 235 W. Tremont Avenue in the center of a new hub for the area featuring two breweries, 550 recently announced new residences, the Rail Trail, and the Atherton Mill and Market.

“Our goal has always been to remain in South End as a neighborhood gathering place where everyone is welcome,” said Chuck Barger, owner of Common Market. “We’re so excited to continue that energy in a new spot in South End. We do not aim to replace but rather renew again the funk that makes Common Market great.”

The Common Market will be housed in a newly renovated warehouse with patio that occupies 7,000 square feet of space. Furniture from the original Common Market South End will be utilized along with an expanded bar, deli, and coffee and quirky market. The patio will also get a new expansion with 4,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor space to feature a music stage, natural shade from surrounding trees, and a potential balcony area with views of Uptown and South End.

“We are thrilled to welcome Common Market South End back to the neighborhood,” said Michael Smith, President and CEO of Charlotte Center City Partners. “It is an iconic neighborhood gathering spot with a vibe that is unique to South End.”

Officials say the renovation work will begin this winter and Common Market SE will have a target opening date of Spring 2017.
